Ephesians 1:13 (NASB) and 1:14 (NLT):
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of the promise, The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him.”
SEALED:
Meaning of “Sphragízō” (Sealed)
In the context of the New Testament, sphragízō means:
To set a seal upon, mark with a seal, to seal
- for security: from Satan
- since things sealed up are concealed (as the contents of a letter), to hide, keep in silence, keep secret
- in order to mark a person or a thing
- to set a mark upon by the impress of a seal or a stamp
- angels are said to be sealed by God
- in order to prove, confirm, or attest a thing
- to confirm authenticate, place beyond doubt
- of a written document
- to prove one’s testimony to a person that he is what he professes to be
- to confirm authenticate, place beyond doubt
INHERITANCE:
- Eternal Life in the Kingdom of God
Titus 3:7 (ESV)
“So that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
Your inheritance includes eternal life with God — not just living forever, but sharing in the quality of life that comes from God’s presence, beginning now and fulfilled in eternity.
- The Indwelling Presence of God
Ephesians 1:14 (NASB)
“[The Holy Spirit] is a pledge of our inheritance, until the redemption of God’s own possession…”
The Holy Spirit is a down payment of what’s to come — meaning part of our inheritance is the daily, personal relationship with God through the Spirit. He is your constant access to divine presence.
- Sonship and Identity in God’s Family
Romans 8:17 (NIV)
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…”
You are not just saved — you’re adopted. That makes you a co-heir with Jesus, sharing in His rights, authority, and privileges. Your inheritance is your new identity as a beloved child of the King.
- The Promises of God
2 Peter 1:4 (NIV)
“He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature…”
Your inheritance includes every promise God has made — peace, provision, healing, wisdom, strength, joy, and so much more. These aren’t vague hopes; they’re part of your spiritual birthright.
- A Heavenly Home
1 Peter 1:4 (NLT)
“We have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.”
You have an eternal home with God — perfect, unshakable, and secure. All earthly things fade, but this inheritance is unspoiled and eternal.
- Ruling and Reigning with Christ
Revelation 3:21 (ESV)
“The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with Me on My throne…
Believers will share in Christ’s authority and rulership in the age to come. This isn’t just survival — it’s reigning with Christ in victory and dominion.
