In all our hearts, there is a sensing of the “more. That “something” that calls us beyond, to the more, the greater—aspirations, dreams, calls, goals. After all, we are people of promise and vision—it’s in our DNA. We are created for purpose… but what is it? You may be asking, “What if I’ve missed it?”
All these questions bring the familiar story of Moses to mind. I wonder how many times he pondered his purpose. Why am I in Egypt? Why was I drawn from the water? Why am I growing up in a palace like a prince when all the other Jews are in slavery? I feel like a round peg in a square hole. What can an Israelite do in the structure of this Egyptian kingdom? Something was churning in him… Someone was calling to him. He just didn’t have the clear picture.
Then one day, he sees an Egyptian beating an Israelite, provoking Moses to kill the Egyptian. Moses acted as a deliverer, but his calling was still unformed, immature, and premature. As a result, his actions created problems. Fearing he would be found out for killing the Egyptian, the one God had chosen to lead Israel out of bondage fled to the desert and became a shepherd.
Far removed from the palace, Moses had ample time to think as he worked. His thoughts probably went to questions familiar to some of us… Have I missed my call? Have I fumbled my chances? Am I still of use? What now? Is this it? Am I done?
But then, Moses is drawn again—this time to a fire. Moses “turns aside” from where he had been working and encounters a common bush burning with uncommon fire—the glory-fire of God is upon it.
In that place of encounter, God revealed Himself and revealed Moses. The fruition of time had come for all that had been in God’s heart for Moses. God said, “I’ve seen the oppression of my people, and I’m sending you to liberate and deliver them.” God defined Moses. And God lifted Moses’ vision! God said, “I have chosen you. I AM the One who will be with you. I AM will make the way.” This encounter freed Moses to free others.
The fullness of who you are can only be actualized by knowing who He is. Only in experiencing Him face to face, will you come into the fullness of who He created you to be. It’s in beholding Him that you will step into the wealth of His promises and your purpose. Your destiny unfolds as you fix your eyes on Him.
Continue to press into Him. Don’t allow frustration to steal joy from you. God’s timing is always perfect. There is a lot that happens in that process of holding to your promise, your call, your prophetic word… Continue to look to Him with expectation. Bask in Him and all His goodness. Remember that destiny is not a destination – it is a journey.
Numbers 12:3 says that Moses was very humble—more humble than anyone else on earth. I believe that was because Moses continued to seek and behold the Lord as he led the people. He met with the Lord daily and was called God’s friend. WOW! When we behold HIM, our eyes aren’t on us anymore—we are ignited. In His presence, everything that needs to be burned away will be… And you will BE the common bush that is set ablaze by glory-fire and not consumed.
In God’s timing, you’ll see even more than you thought possible!
