‘Advancing The Kingdom Of God’
Jesus was once asked by the Jewish religious leaders, “When will God’s kingdom come?” Jesus responded, “God’s kingdom does not come simply by obeying principles or waiting for signs. The kingdom is not discovered in one place or another, for God’s kingdom realm is already expanding within some of you.”
-Luke 17:20-21-
As citizens of heaven, only passing through this earthly realm, how do we live in the reality of Christ’s Kingdom and advance His Kingdom here on earth?
Numerous times in Scripture, we see God’s Kingdom mentioned, and in the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught the disciples to pray for His will and Kingdom to come to earth. Why? I believe in both passages, Matthew 6:10 and Luke 17, the understanding and hopeful outcome is that we see God’s Kingdom realm is the person Jesus Christ. The reality and manifestation of God’s Kingdom appear when Jesus lives within us by faith. By this revelation, His sons and daughters receive their new nature according to Galatians 2:20, “… it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” This is why Jesus gave His life and why His apostles labored, so that Christ would be fully formed in us (see Gal. 4:19), and as a result, His Kingdom is expressed and lived through the lives of His Church. As this Kingdom reality is received, understood, and expressed through His Church, His sons and daughters step into a place of intercession, partnering with the Spirit to see His Kingdom made manifest in each of us—in our surroundings, our homes, workplaces, schools, cities, and beyond!
Since we are not building a Kingdom with brick and mortar but one of heavenly origin, there are some practical keys to help us remember and implement building His Kingdom within us and around us. Let’s look at three simple, but powerful keys that empower Christ’s nature in ours.
1. Know THE Truth
Jesus declares in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Jesus also says in John 8:32, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
The Greek word for truth is Aletheia, which means “undeniable reality” and “ultimate authenticity.” Jesus IS Truth! It is so important to truly understand that He is the ultimate truth; His truth is eternal in its very nature. It doesn’t change, mold, or morph into whatever we need or want it to be. He is simply Truth in all things, at all times. He is the standard of truth, and in this, He is the measure by which we weigh and discern all things. Meaning, the truth is not what I make it to be; there is no such thing as “my” truth—only The Truth.
Paul warns us that dangerous fruit can be produced when we do not allow God’s truth to have its full work in us. In 2 Tim 3:7, He talks about those who “are always learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of truth.”
Righteous discernment is one way we guard ourselves against the enemy’s plan, because deception is one of the primary methods used against the saints. If something in my nature or a situation before me does not fully hold evidence of truth, I know prayer and change are still necessary. The mark of encountering His truth is that it sets us free, and there will be lasting change in us, causing us to look and sound like Him.
2. Know His Voice
We have a beautiful promise from Jesus in John 10:27-29:
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither
shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
The benefits of hearing His voice cannot be measured. I am so grateful that we have this priceless treasure and ability in Christ Jesus. Hearing His voice gives us the connection to a personal relationship with Jesus. I can’t imagine being in a relationship with someone and not having any communication or being unable to hear their voice—their heart, thoughts, desires, and feelings! Can that even be defined as a relationship?! Yet at times we forget this promise from Him.
The benefits we have in hearing His voice don’t stop at relationship, either. Hearing the voice of the Lord gives us direction—it cuts through the external rhetoric and chatter, whether from the enemy or just unwise outside thoughts or ideas. When His voice is revealed, His plans and direction are made clear.
Hearing His voice also offers us protection. The Bible is full of examples of hearing the voice of God—whether delivered by an angel or directly by Him—and the outcome was protection and divine intervention. We cannot expect to lay foundations and build the Kingdom if we do not hear the Architect’s voice. Hearing His voice aids us and enables the commissioning of the Spirit of God through us to build His Kingdom.
3. Know Who Christ Is Through You
Just as hearing God’s voice is essential to advancing and building Christ’s Kingdom within us, it is also absolutely necessary to understand who Christ is in and through us!
He is the source of our identity. According to Romans 8, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us! We are Sons and Daughters destined for Glory, causing us to be heirs of God through Christ Jesus! You are not powerless or even ordinary—you are His supernatural creation, called, created, and empowered through Christ for such a time as this. This is what the blood of Christ accomplished on your behalf 2000 years ago:
- He made all things possible, and He’s making all things new (Rev.21:5).
- You are His new Creation in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17).
- You are more than a conqueror (Rom. 8:37).
- He has given you the authority to overcome all powers of the enemy (Luke 10:19).
- You are the righteousness of Christ, in Jesus.
- You are the redeemed of the Lord (Psalm 107:2).
- You are the head and not the tail (Deut. 28:13).
- He abides in you, and you abide in Him (1 John 4:15).
Because we are chosen and called by God (1 Peter 2:9), it is our privilege and great honor to join our lives to His and see His Kingdom come and His will done in and through us, here on earth!
Join me! Let us pray His kingdom come:
Lord, we honor You and the partnership You have called us into with Your Spirit. You’ve connected us to Your heart so that we may see Your Spirit invade every area of our lives, causing the transformative power of Your Kingdom to be released in and through us. We declare in Jesus’ name, because You are Truth, and we have encountered You, we yield a harvest of freedom and liberty in our lives. Thank You that Your voice reigns supreme in our hearts, souls, and minds. We decree Your Kingdom is moving in power in the Body of Christ. We move in the revelation of Who You are in and through each and every one of us. May we look and sound like You in all things, King Jesus! All glory, honor, power, and praise be to You, Jesus! Amen.
