This month, Francisco shares an activation we can use during challenging times, to switch our mindset to victorious thinking.
While in prayer, I believe the Lord showed me that if we are going to be the victorious conquerors He calls us to be, then we have to change our pattern of thinking. There is a quick activation that the Lord showed me during a very challenging season of my life that helped me switch into victorious thinking. I want to share it with you to help you change moments of pressure into opportunities for blessing.
We live in a very fast-paced world. In fact, there are studies that show that the way we live our lives today is more demanding than ever. In one study I read by a British psychologist, it indicated that in certain parts of the world there is a 30% increase in the overall pace of life in the last 5 years alone.
There is family, church or ministry, work, our personal relationships, our relationship with God, and social media, just to name a few. I personally believe all of this can create a pressure to perform that can weigh heavily on a person. Why? Because we all want to do well. We all want to lead our lives well.
The desire to do well is a good thing. However, the caution for us is that if we aren’t careful, we can easily fall into a pressure mindset or a performance-driven lifestyle that may also lead to a lot of stress. But there is good news. This simple change that I’m going to share with you today is a quick and easy way to shift out of feeling stressed and into seeing an opportunity.
Right before we move into this change, I want to share a verse with you.
Romans 8:6 (NASB) “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mindset on the Spirit is life and peace.”
I have realized that any mindset or pattern of thinking that isn’t set on the Holy Spirit often leads me to feel pressure, and then even the smallest everyday tasks can become overwhelming.
This actually came to me as I was in a season of total chaos in my personal life. I was reminded of it recently, and I’m excited to share it with you now.
One day I was in the car driving, and I said to the Lord, “Something has to change.” I was facing layoff after layoff. I wasn’t sure of my future or provision for my family. I was about to lose my home. It was literally one bad thing after another. Even the small things got to me, like taking the kids to the park or being home in time for dinner. I was overtaken by stress.
I found myself saying over and over – “I got to find time for the family, I got to find a job, I got to make time for the Lord.” “I got to… I got to… I got to… is the phrase that kept coming out of me.”
I could feel the pressure that followed that statement. Then this thought came to me: “Drop the ‘O’ for the overwhelming pressure of life and pick up the ‘E’ for easy with the Holy Spirit.” In other words, change my “got to” statements to “get to,” That one simple change removed all the pressure I was feeling and helped me to move into a victorious mindset. And the second half of Romans 8:6 was immediately activated: “…but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.”
The change that leads to a shift in your life is simple. Instead of saying “I got to,” try saying “I get to.” I get to go to work today. I get to minister the gospel. I get to spend time with my kids. I get to trust in the Lord. I get to visit my family this year, and so on as you go about in life.
Over time this created a sense of excitement and pleasure in my life, and I was able to accomplish all that I needed to, not only with a new mindset but with life and peace.
When you make this change, it will cause a chain reaction in your life. As you start to make this simple change, you will see the pressure to perform being removed over your life. It really, really works. Here are some simple steps to get you going.
How to start this activation:
- Make a list with two columns. In the first column list the areas where you feel stressed out or overwhelmed. In the second column change your statements by adding “I get to.” Example: In column 1, I wrote down “work.” In column 2, I wrote down “I get to work today.”
- Ask the Holy Spirit how you can increase in life and peace in these areas. Example: I get to be a blessing at work today.
- Decree the word of God over your life. You will see the victory as you make this simple change.
I pray that you are encouraged as you activate this simple but powerful change in your life. I decree that you are victorious and have the mindset of the Spirit that brings life and peace to every situation in your life. Amen!
